In May 1918 the Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des boekhandels in Amsterdam moved to a new building, the `Boekhuis', on the Herengracht in Amsterdam, a 'monumental piece of work' by B.J. Ouëndag. It functioned, apart from being an office for the Association itself, also as a distribution centre from where orders found their way to bookshops all over the Netherlands.
