Content
 Production and sale of French books occupied an important place in Amsterdam and The Hague due to restrictive measures and censorship in France itself. Also their bookshops, situated mostly in the centre, were often meeting places for followers of a political or religious movement. Huguenots fled from France, for instance, met in the `librairies françaises' such as that of François L`Honoré and Jacques Desbordes in the Amsterdam Beursstraat.
