Sorting and cutting rags in a rag shed. Usually this work was done by women and girls. To the right the rags are still in bales, the way they were delivered at the mill. They were sorted above a sieve bin, where the women stripped them of buttons, hooks and eyes, zippers, etc. To cut them. the rags were hauled along an upstanding knife.
