Content
The children on this page, Willem, Fransje and Saartje, eager readers, are ferreting about in their father's library. He makes use of the occasion to teach them proper reading habits: according to him books with `pictures' or `prints' serve little use, books which `speak briefly of your native country' on the other hand, are to be preferred and a `Fable poem' should be reflected on ten times before starting on a second. To protect the books the bookcase has curtains, something that also occurred in later times.
