Content
Advertisement of Blikman & Sartorius, well-known 'steam printing house' on Rokin in Amsterdam. 'Steam printing house' means that printing was no longer done with hand presses, but with machines, driven by steam. General industrialization got under way late in the Netherlands when compared with abroad. This also applied to the art of printing: only after about 1855 did its mechanization get going, to become more or less general from about 1880.
