The `leesbibiotheek' started by Hendrik Scheurleer in The Hague was not granted a long, commercial life: in 1763 it was closed, while the books had to be auctioned in December of that year. The catalogue has all in all more than 5,000 entries exclusive of the `rarities'(globes, prints, inkwells, etc.) and the furniture.
