Content
In 1692 Pieter Rabus (1660-1702) founded this general cultural magazine in Dutch, which managed not only to reach scholars, but especially a wide interested public. This new medium, which was to have many followers in the 18th century, kept his readers informed of developments in the field of arts and sciences and contained, besides articles, also summaries of recently published books. To the left is the portrait of Willem Séwel (1654-1720), a well-known linguist in the field of the Dutch and English languages. The frontispiece shows an impressive library, framed by two allegorical figures in the middle and portrait medallions of classical and modern authors.
