The life insurance company 'Utrecht', founded in 1883, had a library early on for the benefit of their own management but it was also accessible to interested parties from outside. Besides modern publications in the field of mathematics, medicine, law, etc., the library also had publications from the 17th and 18th centuries. The layout and furnishing of this reading room is in every detail in the style of the Nieuwe Kunst (Dutch art Nouveau).
