Content
 In this emblem book, Adriaen van de Venne shows a woman reading another book by Cats, the Hovwelyck (Marriage) of 1625. The book is open at the beginning of the `Virgin' chapter and shows the emblem of a tulip, or `arms of a virgin'. Both the tulip and the reading are symbols of female virtue.
