 A view of the printing shop of A.W. Sijthoff in Leiden. The company had 3 very large cylinder presses, 6 large cylinder presses, 4 ordinary cylinder presses and 2 platen presses. In the composing and printing rooms both well-educated and less-educated personnel, with various specialisations, worked side by side. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the wages were low and the average working day was 11 hours.
